Fee for service from commissioning
Milling, cold storage, water, charging and logistics are paid services on platform-owned equipment. The model does not depend on selling kilowatt-hours — electricity is an input, not the product.
Funding the platform
How the hubs and the continental base are financed: fee-for-service revenue from commissioning, grant and concessional capital directed at measured proof, and commercial capital once performance is verified — attached to programs already financed in each country, never to host-state budgets.
Credit to the hub's users — producers, cooperatives and women-led enterprises — is set out under Credit at the hub.
Milling, cold storage, water, charging and logistics are paid services on platform-owned equipment. The model does not depend on selling kilowatt-hours — electricity is an input, not the product.
Engineering, importation, warranties, legal, accounting and government interface sit at continental and country level; each hub adds services at low marginal cost.
Funding is sought jointly with sector partners and from programs already established and financed in the host country — national programs, donor and multilateral windows, climate finance. Never from host-state budgets.
Grant and concessional capital is directed at the first cluster to produce measured proof: utilization, collections, maintenance performance and enterprise outcomes, published against the indicator set. Each verified cohort reprices the next for private capital.
Generation scaled beyond the hub's own needs and sold to commercial and industrial offtakers under long-term power purchase agreements is the most stable revenue in the portfolio — the bridge that makes verified cohorts financeable on commercial terms.
Donor and concessional programs, approached with the network member and the government — never a call on the national budget.
| Window | Route and themes |
|---|---|
| National energy compacts · Mission 300Government-led, private delivery | The World Bank and African Development Bank compact framework and national access programs. A program enters by being named in the compact implementation plan or its next financing phase — which needs a private operator on the other side. Themes: renewable energy, last mile, connections, clean cooking. |
| Development banks and their facilitiesSovereign or private window | Project preparation, rural electrification, youth and women's agro-entrepreneurship, regional development banks for concessional and local-currency finance, guarantees and political-risk cover wrapping commercial tranches. |
| Climate and energy-access fundsAccredited entity or direct | Green Climate Fund, Global Environment Facility and Adaptation Fund, plus results-based and catalytic energy-access windows. Access usually runs through an accredited entity or the national designated authority, so the member and the ministry apply with the platform rather than behind it. |
| Food security, agriculture and nutritionConsortium with the mandated body | The Global Agriculture and Food Security Program, the International Fund for Agricultural Development, the Food and Agriculture Organization, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization and European Union food-systems programs. The hub is infrastructure inside someone else's mandate, which is why the sector partner co-applies. |
| People: youth, women, skills, health, inclusionPhilanthropy and United Nations agencies | Youth and women's employment foundations, United Nations Development Programme country programs, financial-inclusion and clean-cooking facilities, and education and health programs that can deliver through hub counters and tele-services. |
The landscape
The programs, funds and facilities a country program can attach to — by type, stage, region and sector. A reference, not a claim: eligibility and the route in are established per country during the launch phase.
